Oak Harbor has been a wonderful place for my Mother to live during the last 6 years. She came to Oak Harbor via the Ocean Reef Club and Fox Hill life care community in Westwood, Mass. She loved Oak Harbor because it allowed her to feel part of the wonderful town of Vero Beach. She most enjoyed McKee Botanical Garden and The Museum of Art. She made many wonderful friends and really felt both independent and safe. All of my family are grateful that Oak Harbor provided such an outstanding home for my Mother. The staff and facilities could not be better.

My husband and I moved to Oak Harbor from Piper's Landing in Palm City about 3 years ago. We had looked at many places for a retirement home, but Oak Harbor outshined them all. One of the reasons undoubtedly was the sales person, Shelli Schinkus. Her enthusiasm, her conscientiousness, and her patience were evident as she showed us a number of houses that would be suitable. When we finally decided on the one we bought, I was very impressed with the way Shelli handled every step along the way. And, again, her enthusiasm was almost catching as we learned about all the niceties we would be getting at Oak Harbor.
Shelli introduced us to all aspects of living at Oak Harbor, all of which were invaluable to us as we settled into a community where we didn't know a soul. The transition was made so smoothly, I will never forget it.

We checked out over a dozen retirement communities before choosing Oak Harbor because of its’ superior ambiance. Now, after five years, we are particularly happy with the people (staff and residents) and the dining.

We lived in Ocean Ridge, FL for 26 years and for various reasons we decided to move to Oak Harbor. Shelli did an outstanding job of showing us different plans and lots and we decided to build. If it hadn't been for Shelli and her wonderful help we probably would not have moved. We like Oak Harbor members and all the amenities the Club offers. Life is easier and we feel more secure".

All our apprehension about our move to Oak Harbor vanished within our first week of living here. We knew how beautiful the property looked and how much we liked our new home. What we didn't know was how friendly everyone would be, the multitude of fun activities available, and how close we are to everything else in Vero Beach.

We were among the very first to move to Oak Harbor. The builder did a good job for us! This all happened about 10, or is it 11, years ago. It was very quiet on our street back then but the clubhouse had been built and was ready for us. We have since then, been very pleased with our move here, and have been responsible for many new members. What would we do without Oak Harbor???!!!

Moving to Oak Harbor is the single best move we've ever made. From the friends we've made, the fun we've had, the ambiance, the wonderful staff always thinking of our pleasure, the beautiful golf course, the tennis and croquet, the sports and wellness fun times, the club house that has no equal, and last, but by no means least, the food. We sit in beautiful surroundings and enjoy the best food in Vero Beach. We call it "Shan-gri-la".

I”ve been at Oak Harbor for about 1 year. Shelli Schinkus led me through many available home choices and answered all questions thoroughly and patiently, both in person and via phone. She even assisted me in customizing my home by getting a fence approved for my 2 small dogs. One year later, I am happy as a lark and have everything that I could possibly enjoy in a new home. So often I think, “I owe it all to Shelli”. She is charming, highly intelligent, industrious, and embodies the caring touch that makes this wonderful place feel like home.

My mother moved to Oak
Harbor from John’s Island
in the spring of 2005. There had been two significant hurricanes the previous
fall and our family was concerned that she be in a safe place “off
island”. We looked at several places and
decided on the very best, Oak Harbor.
We looked at cottages and condominiums. We met with the
administration, viewed Somerset (the beautiful
assisted living area), and walked the extensive paths along the golf course
from OakHarbor
through Grand Harbor. We dined in the Club House and
met the residents- reconnecting with friends from John’s Island and our
previous home town, Short Hills,
New Jersey.
We decided that a first floor condominium looking over the
lake and waterfall and within easy walking distance of the Club House would be
perfect. We definitely made the right decision.
The past two years have been absolutely fabulous. Where do I
begin? Dan Hall, The Club Manager has become a good friend. He is committed to
the residents and brings genuine caring and expertise to his job. With Dan Hall “at the wheel” residents are
assured a great ride while at Oak
Harbor. There is always a
“shake down” period in new communities as they acquire permanent staff and work
through operational kinks. Oak
Harbor is far more
established and doesn’t experience the inevitable disruptions of start up. From the management, to the receptionist to
the activities director and maintenance staff; the people at Oak Harbor
have been there for years. They run the
community so very effectively. For my
mother, who was used to the top notch services at John’s Island,
and for some of her friends who moved at the same time, they kept the quality
services to which they were accustomed.
My whole family is constantly impressed with the quality of
operations at Oak
Harbor. There is a
personal relationship between the staff; wait staff, drivers, maintenance, and
the people who live in the community.
The special events, of which there are many, are truly special. And the pool area, croquet and golf course-
in fabulous shape!
Thank heavens for Oak
Harbor!
Sincerely,
Carrie Trooboff
